Kosova Young Lawyers (KYL)
The non-profit organization KYL was founded in 2006 on the initiative of young Kosovar lawyers in accordance with regulation No.1999/22 of the United Nations Interim Administration in Kosova (UNMIK). The main purposes of KYL include the education of young lawyers and students on the principles and purposes of international organisations and EU institutions, the engagement of students/youth in international, national, regional, and local conferences, and the education of Kosovar citizens on legal systems. In order to fulfil these purposes, KYL is specialised in the following activities: the organisation of trainings and workshops of educational character for law and political science students in order to advance the level of professional-practical work, the establishment of exchange programs between colleges and universities in Kosovo and abroad, the organisation of debates between public holders, professionals and professors especially in the field of international law and European law. KYL was part of several working groups helping the Prime Minister to draft laws foreseen in the “Ahtisaari package” (e.g. on the topics of immunities of foreign staff and international organizations or on the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign affairs of Kosovo). Furthermore, KYL gathered extensive experience on issues of civil society involvement in its participation in the working group that drafted the “Memorandum of Understanding with the Kosovo Government and Civil Society” and is part of the NGO List of the SOROS Foundation and the Kosova Civil Society Foundation KCSF on “Strengthening of the Civil Society Network in the field of European Integration”.
