1. Welcome to the about-once-a-month INFOCON newsletter
Dear colleague,
The adventure on which we embarked with the INFOCON project is soon celebrating its second anniversary. The past two years have been tough work: intensive fieldwork has been carried out in more than half a dozen countries, and the team has witnessed stimulating (and at times heated) debates in Brussels, London, Duisburg, Lille and Liège. We will soon be able to assess the outcome of the efforts, knowledge and patience that have been invested in the project: our next conference in The Netherlands will be the occasion for a first coherent overview on our research findings. Tot ziens in Nijmegen!
2. Second conference in Nijmegen: 22-23 April 2010
The second INFOCON conference will be hosted by the Centre for International Development Issues Nijmegen (CIDIN) at the Radboud University Nijmegen. It will present a first overview on the research findings we have accumulated so far: Ruerd Ruben (University of Nijmegen) will speak about “Networks and their Role in Poverty Reduction: Drivers for Transnational Economic Activities in Post-conflict Countries”; Hugh Miall (Kent University) will discuss “Transnational Communities and Conflict Policies”; and Nathalie Perrin “Transnational Communities in their host societies: Political Mobilization and Conflict Resolution”. The conference program also includes a workshop on the Kosovo conflict with experts from Kosovo, Serbia and The Netherlands and a panel discussion on the (difficult) dialogue between migrant and development organiza tions. Please consult the complete program here. For inscriptions please contact Nienke Regts (N.Regts@maw.ru.nl).
3. Here & There Platform: new features
Here & There is a service for Civil Society Organizations, research institutes and international players engaged in the exchange of knowledge on migrant communities and the challenges of living together, be they integration or cultural dialogue, human rights issues, conflict resolution, or development. During the past months many new features have been added to the platform in order to boost its attractiveness, for instance an automatic tool to invite people by email to join your organisation on Here & There. Check out the website here.
